GTX550 Ti crashing in BF3? Upgrade?

Hi guys

first time posting so help out a guy with correct placement or any directions

ill make this clear now, I live in New Zealand so prices are different here significantly, eg a $100 card in th USA costs $150-170 here, also means certain items may not be avaliable to me. Also i dont have a huge amount of money so factor that in, i got about $200 NZD to spend, about $160ish USD

now thats out of the way, i have two questions one resolution will resolve the other

Currently im running an i5-2500 on a GA-P67A-UD3-B3 board with 16gb of ram and a gtx550ti igb ddr5(cant find make) and storage of 2.66TB (1TB,1.5TB, and 160gb for ubuntu, so 3 hdds total) with a coolermaster 460W psu

the issue is that when im playing an intesive game such as BF3 after about an hour the display drivers will crash bringing down my game.

question number 1

Whats the fix? ive read sometimes its over heating others its a lack of power so would a new power supply fix it as im thinking 460W might not be enough for the system

question number 2

if its unfixable (unlikely but prepared for it) what gfx card would be a suitable replacement, with current power supply and with an upgrade say 650W if i sell my current one? im kinda leaning towards Amd card atm something like a 7770 or 7790 range, as i figure the 7770 should work on current psu, not sure though

any details need to be added just ask, would appreciate any help

If you look at benchmarks, the gtx 580 is still a pretty capable card. I think that your psu is just too small for that card, since 600w is the recommended.

not to be impolite but im running a GTX550 ti, not a GTX580 i wish i was lol, but im not atm. The GTX550 ti should be fine on a 400W psu by what ive seen

What drivers are you running I have a 660ti and like 2-3 months ago the drivers for nvidia would cause me to crash in bf3 only for what ever reason after a while try the 320.49

im running the current drivers, updated when they came out , 320.49, only thing not up to date i believe is the bios, and its crashing
