GTX 970 Driver crashing

So after giving my old gpu to my friend I got a ASUS Strix gtx 970 and decided to do a fresh install of windows 10 (via windows 8 fresh install then upgrade). Everything was fine for the first few hours then my gpu driver crashed and then when my pc rebooted windows wouldn't boot. I reinstalled windows 10 (directly) and downloaded the latest windows 10 drivers for everything but I still can't play a game without my GPU drivers crashing. Can anyone help?

Specs

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3
CPU: i5-5690k (not OC)
SSD: 128GB SanDisk Ultra Plus
HDD: 3TB Seagate Barracuda HDD 7200 RPM
GPU: ASUS strix 970
PSU: 850W FSP Aurum Pro Modular

Did the 970 work fine before Windows 10?
Either way test the gpu (install drivers, run stress tests etc) in another machine (your friends) if it shits itself in his then RMA it.

Can't say as I upgraded as soon as I could never stressed it

but I will try it out in another pc tomorrow when I get time
