GTX 660 vs HD7870

Hey guys..

I've finally garnered enough money to buy a graphics card for my rig.... soo which would be better, GTX 660 or HD7870? I would primarily just be gaming and looking for a gpu under 300 bucks. I dont mind playing games at medium/high as long as it gets 30+ fps so I dont really need a gtx670. The place where I live has really weird gpu prices so my excitement of the gtx760 died down as soon as I saw the (equivalent to) 360USD price tag. I also thought about the gtx 660ti but it was 320USD. And finally, the gtx660 was $210 while the 7870 was $230. What would you guys recommend?

i'd save a little bit and get the 660

the two cards couldn't be much closer, but what manufaturer/cooler are the coices?

Go with a 7870 Tahiti LE edition (and overcock)

7870 compares to the 660ti. A large amount of future games will be optimised for AMD. 7870 is the clear winner.

There are a few other cards within your budget; I have seen 7950s and 760 go for less than $250 on Newegg.

True, there has been a big $50+ price drop on the 7950 cards.

The ASUS HD7950-DC2-3GD5-V2 is a monster for under $300

The MSI R7950 Twin Frozr 3GD5/OC 3GB Is a steel at $244 

And both come with 3 free games.

Thanks for the replies guys. I would love to get the 7950 for $244.. but I dont live in the US and over here the same msi model costs $360,while the Asus are not even in stock. Oh and for some reason I dont see Club 3ds over here in Japan.(only the 7970)

the MSI gtx660 is $210

I'm leaning towards the 7870 now due to the recommendations. Which would be the best:

Gigabyte hd7870 OC PCI-E 2GB GV-R787OC-2GD (the crazy-looking one with 3 fans) for $230

ASUS HD7870-DC2TG-2GD5-V2 for $260

They are very good value cards, and I don't think you will be disappointed. 

Its just a shame Japan is so very expensive!
