GPU passthrough: Buy second GTX 1070?

Hi everyone,

So. I currently have a PC for about 4 years now, specs are:
CPU - i7 6700k
RAM: 16gb
GPU- GTX 1070
**Power Supply - 400 watt **
Storage: 500gb SSD for Linux(host), 1TB HDD for storage

I want to take Linux to being, truly, my main OS on my system. With this, I’d still like to get on Windows for some games don’t run on Linux… so I thought, why not do GPU pass through? Since this is a 4 year old computer now, the the GTX 1070 being around for that long, would it be smart for me to buy one? Would the power supply suffice? Lastly… got a recommendation for a host os that will also be my desktop os?

Appreciate your time!!

It’s a bit easier to make things work if you’ve got GPUs of different models. It’s doable otherwise, and there’s a guide here about it that Wendell posted a while ago. There’s just an extra step involved since both GPUs would have the same PCI ID.

About the PSU, I’d get a new one maybe in the 650-700W range.
