GPU Length Dilemma

I am looking to upgrade my EVGA GTX 770 SC to a GTX 1070. I really love the the look, design, and theoretical performance of the ASUS GTX 1070 Strix card. Problem is, I am worried about not being able to fit it into my case.

I have a Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 with the front HDD cage installed (I actually do use all 7 of my HDD's and my 1 SSD). Removal of the front HDD cage is not an option. Fractal states that the maximum supported GPU length with front HDD cage installed is 290mm, or roughly 11.42 inches. The GTX 1070 Strix is a 298mm card, or roughly 11.73 inches. My question is, does anyone know if Fractal was being conservative with their 290mm specification, or is that the ABSOLUTE maximum?

Taking some "guestamation" measurements with a ruler, I believe I can barely squeeze the card in there, I will just have to route the PCI-E power cable down and away from the card instead of in front. I have linked some pictures of a ruler in my case, I cannot attest to the accuracy of the ruler however. Does anyone have experience squeezing a slightly longer than 290mm graphics card into an Arc Midi R2 with the HDD cage installed?

** For reference, the GTX 770 in the picture is a 266.7mm card, or roughly 10.5 inches in length.

wont fit.

even if it did it would be so tight you can't fit it in the case.

maybe invest in a new case? I really like my H440

I actually really like the Arc Midi. I might just look at getting a shorter 1070, I am just not a fan of the EVGA ACX cards this gen, but it basically comes down to function over form. I just really like the Asus card and it had higher clock than most of the others.

tbh evga is the better brand, and pretty much everybrand's cooling is the same.

Asus support is full dick head, evga is a bro.

measure it yourself?

n/m you did, you just played yourself.

It will fit no problem...
I fit 308mm 270X Toxic...

So i have extra 10mm to deal with...

PS: Just so we are clear, this is Arc Midi R2, this is the bottom hard drive cage, screwed ti the optical cage, using the holes from the rails, where the top hard drive cage was suppose to mount to...

I used some dinky ruler I found in a drawer. You would be surprised how inaccurate they can be sometimes, haha.

Dude, many thanks. I have more confidence now that I won't have to send it back if I order it.

his case and your case dont look the same..

I think he's got the bottom cage out EDIT: says so on his post.

Will it fit with both the bottom and top HDD cages attached?

Keep in mind, you may have to remove the top cage, fiddle a bit to fit it in, but once fitted it will be fine. Your main issue may be installing the card.
But it should not have any issues once fitted in the case.

You are corect. His case is stock Arc Midi R2...
My case is my Arc Midi R2...

What i did is basically lined up the holes, where the plastic rails were and screwing the bottom cage to the optical cage.

Just to secure my point...

The optical drive cage and the HDD cage align perfectly the way they align on my build as well, so my HDD cage is not shifted in any way. It is just mounted on the roof instead of the floor. And if i could remove the opticle drive cage i would have mounted it on it's place...

Should just hold out for the 1080ti man, the 1070 can't do 4k or 1440p 144hz, and if you were gaming at say 1440p 144hz, you'd be fine with even a cheap 480 for the most part, aside from getting 60fps at 100% graphical settings in some games

Not planning on gaming at anything higher than 1440P. As long as I am getting at least 60+ FPS I am happy. I don't like to play competitive games, more immersive single player games at very high detail settings. My CPU couldn't feed a theoretical GTX 1080Ti. This is probably the fastest card I can put in without a major bottleneck by the CPU.

Even if you hit a CPU bottleneck you can just up your graphical settings even more to max out your GPU

and I suppose if you really wanted to max out 1440p a 1070 or used 980ti would be the best overall

Although in this random youtube test that you should mute, the 480 managed 40fps max/ultra settings, and it could easily hit 60fps with some lower quality of course, but the price difference between the 2 isn't too major

So I ended up just getting an EVGA GTX 1070 SC. Don't care for it aesthetically, but I am more concerned with performance. Saved some money going with the EVGA instead of the ASUS as well, and yeah, ASUS customer support does suck lol. I will probably be getting an RX 480 for my brothers computer once some partner cards come out. I try to be impartial when it comes to AMD, Intel, Nvidia, etc.

Still interested to see how the GTX 1060 will compare with the RX 480 (crossing my fingers that the AMD outperforms it)

It will not... Nvidia will clock their card to beat 480... More important for me will be pricing...
