I myself can recommend the X79 platform. I have had Rampage IV Extreme and an i7-3930k. The system works really well and will handle pretty much any game really well. However, if you plan on using a flagship Nvidia card (Titan or 780) with it then you might want to look up how to enable PCI-E 3.0 for the card. The guys at Nvidia kept everyting locked at PCI-E 2.0 for X79 because different motherboards were operating at different transfer speeds with the PCI-E 3.0. However, the Rampage IV Extreme should work fine with the override.
