I made some test with the F7A Bios.
I think is really more stable on cpu usage than before, the idle temps are better (31-33) and the full load temp not passing 60°-65°.
I only update bios, loaded default and enabled xmp (3600 mhz gskill).
The benchmarks results with cinebench 15 are more or less same as before, geekbench test is really better.
While mantaining a load temp <70° my cpu (in single core cinebench 15) still remain at 4550 mhz with 1,48V.

I reached and passed 4.6ghz with stock bios settings in cinebench r15 multithread test.
This appens only when i launch the test when the cpu is completely in idle state and the temps are low.
If i run other tests consecutively, the temps go up and the cpu reach 4.1ghz max.
So, in my opinion, the cooler efficiency is the key.
I hope that varius brands of coolers will develop something dedicated to this awesome CPU.

Does the ABBA bios mess up the IOMMU-groups, or were there always just 8? I was under the impression that there were quite a few more. Kinda bummed out about this, because the whole reason I bought this board was so I could do gpu-passthrough.

yeah, I have asked about this. there is huuuuge variation in iommu grouping across boards and uefi versions. idk why. Make sure it is set to On and not Auto.

Can you see a difference between On and Auto? It may be that On is broken and its always auto or off, which is why it’s limited. (Auto means partial enablement)

Both auto and enabled seem to give me the exact same result. Which as you suggest would mean that the enabled option is not working.

Is that only for the newest BIOS or is it unrelated to version number?

Thank you for the hint Wendell! I rolled back the BIOS to the one that came with the board listed as version F4 and I’ve got my iommugroups back. I’m really glad I remembered to make a backup. Btw I noticed another odd thing when reverting the BIOS version. The nvme-drives flip their order between F4 and F7 (ABBA). I only have 2, but I still find it kinda irritating to have /dev/nvme0 and /dev/nvme1 switch on me between BIOS-versions.

There is a 1/2 twitch on the board. I’d suggest you run one of them with abba, and the other w/whatever. Then you can just flip 1/2 depending on what bios you want.

Just a little heads up, the latest bios version labelled “f7b” still has the broken iommu bios setting, as in no difference between auto and enabled.

I just saw that my B450m Bazooka Plus got the abba update two weeks ago. I checked before that again and again and just determined it would never come. Now I’ve go something to test later, when i’m home. I’ll make sure to report back.

So tried the F11 bios and it’s got messed up iommu-groups for me. So the F4 bios is still the only bios version with correct iommu-groups, but that one has the rdrand-problem.

Was anybody successful in getting any kind of response from Gigabyte, about this? Was anybody able to work around the useless iommu-groups of the later bios-revisions?

The rdrand thing is turning out to be a bitch to workaround with all the programs that are adamant about using it, even with the nordrand kernel-parameter.

I’m now trying to figure out how to get the acl-overide-patch working on Manjaro and see if I can separate the two videocards.

EDIT - Got it to work.

Well that took me an awkward amount of time to figure out, but I finally got it to work. The key elements for me were to get the linux55 kernel modified with the navi-reset and add-acs-overrides patches. Then got the iommu-groups split up using the kernel-parameter:

pcie_acs_override=downstream,multifunction

Manjaro already ships the first version of the navi-reset.patch from this level1techs forum, but I replaced it with the v2 one while I was at it. Although to be honest, I haven’t noticed any issues with the first version.

I’m not new to linux, but I am new to Manjaro and Arch and figuring how to install a patched kernel the Manjaro-way took me a lot longer than anticipated. I followed this guide mostly, but got the kernel from Majaros gitlabs site.
