July 1, 2020 I made a complete backup / image of my windows machine, then formatted and installed linux. I haven’t used windows on my personal machines since. I still have the 167gb backup. I want the space. I’ve been trying to find a way to recover or at least see what is on the backup. Ive tried to mount the image using virt-manager and virtual box. Im currently having trouble with the vhdx format. I have also tried using libguestfs-tools but can’t get it to work. I think I’m having PATH issues. Im stubborn and really don’t want to install windows in a vm. Any suggestions? Im currently using debian 12.
Might help if you remember the app used to create the backup, and the format it saved it as?
Like, raw to an img file via did, or whatever?
Presumably you have tried “gnome disk image mounter” as the simplest GUI tool?
There are CLI options, including things like inspecting the file with fdisk for partitions, but I can’t recall then rn
