As the title says I am looking to build a gaming/streaming PC this will be my first PC build instead of just buying them like I have done previously. I know the FX-8350 would be better for streaming as shown in TekSyndicates benchmarks but since there are roomours about the FX line being cut off I was wondering what could be my alternative PC build of €1000. I live in Ireland so hardware prices do tend to be higher than usual. As stated before I dont want to go over €1000 which I know will probably be difficult enough. This PC will also be used for Photoshop and other editing programs mostly Adobe so preferably a nVidia card so I could take advantage of the CUDA cores.
I used french prices because they use euros also.... This is an amazing build for the price. It includes the FX-8350, a gtx 680, ssd for OS + 1 TB HDD, an amazing case and good PSU.
I dont know if these prices will still be available in your region, the gtx 680 at 355 was an amazing deal.
If you need to cut back somewhere I would recommend an AMD 7970 graphics card to bring the build into budget and you will still get great results.
Deutsch prices because they're near to you....I guess?
3570k is really all you need for gaming, games usually won't utilise hyper-threading so the 4 core i5 is more than enough and can sometimes out-preform an i7 in games at a microscopic level. 2TB of the quickest mech hard drive on the market, seagate barracuda. They should give you more than enough space for storing whatever edits or videos you save. Asrock Extreme 3 because it's a great mobo. 8GB of corsair vengeance with great timings, cas 9 and a low voltage @ 1.5 so you can probably OC the ram a bit, it's also cheap. A GTX 660ti is a great card, 2gb of vram should load up all your textures without a problem and cuda does in fact help with premiere a lot. A seasonic 650w gold, I mean, you really don't need any more than that. Jap capacitors, a great mean time between falure if there even is one and seasonic really is a template for other companies to use. Best OEM brand imo. Fractal define r4 because it's quiet as hell, I have one 2 feet from me and can't tell if it's on or not, comes with great stock silent case fans and overall airflow.
Yeah I had considered getting the GTX 680, but then I saw a GTX 670 Power Edition from MSI which I was told is similar to the GTX 680 out of the box due to its OC. It comes in at €240 which I found was extremely reasonable.
For the alternative to the FX-8350 I was going to get the i5 3750k and OC it with a CM Hyper 212 Evo, would that keep it cool enough for a stable 4.2 - 4.4ghz overclock? and how would the i5 3750k preform in CPU intensive games such as Arma 2 and Arma 3 while streaming, would the i5 be able to handle streaming while getting a stable 30fps? - Sorry for all the questions but I really need as much help as I can because I am torn between which CPU I am better off with.
fyi the fx-8350 killss the 3570k it when streaming the games may not use the other cores but they do come into use verymuch so when streaming while gaming.also the fx-line may be cutoff soon but intel is changing sockets also so there is the need for a new motherboard either way once you want a new cpu because i doubt you will want to upgrade to a 3770k after 2 gens have came out after it assuming you dont upgrade until next year. so either way you will need a new motherboard.
Except you guys are all forgetting the horrible AMD architecture and the riduculous power consumption. Intel's on-die memory controller and much lower power needs at high overclocks alone are a deal breaker for many. AMD even admitted to not being able to compete with intel. Which is why they completely seized making high-end processors and stuck to lower end, mainstream consumer grade products. The 8350 is cheaper for a reason.
Also, Cian, I wouldn't bother going over 4.2 on a hyper 212 evo. I managed to get one to 4.3 on a hyper 212 (non evo) and it was throttling quite a bit. A 3570k would do great with really cpu intensive games, Arma 3 and 2 should run at a playable frame rate. I've seen pentium's running arma 2 at around 30fps so you should be fine. I would honestly go with the i5.
A few things on this debate.. I have the i5 3570k, and after a lot of research, I regret it. I wish I got the 8350, and there is a very specific reason for it. The consoles coming out are 8 cores, which means that games starting with those consoles and later will use more cores and that makes the 8350 a much better option for future proofing. The i5 3570k is far better on individual cores, but it cant do 8 simultaneous threads.
As far as cooling, I have a 4.6 overclock on my i5-3570k and it never goes over 74c in stress test in summer heat. My cooler is a deepcool gamerstorm with 2x noctua NF-F12's. It's good but not the best. RL temps rarely go over 50. During some load points it goes to 60, but stays in the 40's for all regular load tasks. It idles in 30's in summer heat, and high 20's in winter.
My friend who has the same processor on a hyper 212 evo has his overclocked to 4.4 with no problems, though his is a little hotter. He is still well in the safe zone. He got his up to 4.8, but it was hotter than he wanted. I got mine to 5.0 with low 80 thermals, but I couldnt get it stable. it would crash after a few minutes.
I settled on 4.6 for best performance/heat/power ratio.
All that said, take a serious look at the 8350. 8 thread programs will be much better on that, and its cheaper.
Yeah I understand what you mean I really want the FX-8350 but I wont be able to begin my build until December because then ill have all my components. my only worry is that if AMD do indeed end production of the FX line I would be stuck and would have to get an i5 3570k or an i7 3770k (staying away from Haswell dont like how the throttle under loads while overclocked). So I am hoping that they dont end it by then because what I want of my build is;
the FX8350 is still a good value for money. i would realy recommend it for your needs. the build looks good, but look at a better cpu cooler.
ive heard that new adobe software could also use open CL, if thats the case i would recommend a Radeon 7950/7970, or theire new 9950/9970 wenn they come out in October.
That looks like a great build man. Move the fans on the case to fill the front fans slots so you have full dust control though. Cuts back on maintainance.
Also, Windows 8 has a little annoyance at first, but its faster. I have run both 7 and 8 and prefer 8 for its speed increase. I dont even use the start screen and apps.
agreed, and the model he is getting is a special factory overclocked on a cheap deal. If he doesnt get that I would recommend a 7970 which dropped in price and are an amazing value at the moment.
For me I can only find 7970's that are in the €300+ range whereas the 670 is at €240 + Tom Clancys Splinter Cell Blacklist which is a pretty good deal. Yeah I had planned on buying another fan from Fractal Design hopefully if I can find the stock ones that come with the R4 so I could fill the front intake slots and still have an exuast fan at the back
I did use Windows 8 for a short time on a friends computer and I just didnt like the feel of it but is there a way to bypass the start screen? Also the boot time is meant to be faster for windows 8 is that true? :L
yes there is! Start is back is a famous one and there is a free one that is great called "classic start." I havent used it, but I have a friend who is a computer tech pro that swears by it. Another thing worth mentioning is finding a GPU that has 3 GB or more of ram... Games will exceed 2 GB in the next year. More of them are coming out with HD texture packs and polygon counts are going up too. Something to consider. The 760 is a great card, but doesnt have the same cuda cores, but the memory bandwidth is heavily upgraded. Maybe you can find a 4gb version of the 670? Anyway, Your current build looks good.
I found a XFX HD 7970 for €309 + the Gold Bundle from AMD so I think I am going to save up a little extra for that card and put it with the FX-8350 for the overall build
