I'm looking to build a pc for gaming and light productivity work (office and the likes - no creative suite or video applications) and and looking at 2 possible builds - one with the 4670k and another with the 8320 (which from my understanding is basically a stock underclocked 8350). The intel option (using an MSI Z87M-G43) ends up being quite a lot more than the AMD (using an MSI 970A-G43). Both builds use a Radeon HD 7970, and for the AMD option I think that I would get a water cooler at some point.
The Pcpartpicker lists if interested:
Intel - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1Xr3G
AMD - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1WV9F
So my questions are
1) Will the AMD's lower per core performance be noticeable in general use, such as using the OS, or does it only affect much more CPU intensive apps.
2) Will the Z87 chipset have any features that make it a better option for a general user (with some interest in overclocking) than the much cheaper 970 board.
Thanks.
