I would love to do a wire but if i went the only option which is around the outside of the house its going to cost me more in wire than idea, i worked it our to nearly 200m this when i costed it up was over £400 just for the cable
What do you mean non-producton??
I am sorry I'm really new to this only build my first pc last year and got to the point i need more storage
non-production meaning only for testing purposes since your actually using it for storage it's production just not mission critical.
You want it wired to the router other than that is doesn't matter. Even if you use a wifi bridge to get between routers you want it wired. Move it to the router. You say it's a house so moving it isn't an issue and is probably a good thing. You want it in a secluded area like an attic or a closet (assuming adaquate cooling) bottom line keep it wired wifi is too hard to be worth the effort.
i will have to see what i can do, the problem s the router location s at the bottom of my stairs in the hall way, but i could look to build my nas into the cabinet it sits on, go ikea case instead of a normal case
What rooms is the router next to? Maybe you could shove a cable through the wall to the next room instead of across the entire house. If you put it in a cabinet you may have to drill holes to keep it cool.
I'm getting about 8MB over wifi which is kinda high for what wireless G can do. 7MB max so not too high. Moving about 5 GB in 10 minutes at that speed. So kinda slow but remember this is over wifi. I have the freenas server running in a vm on my machine. so it goes over wifi because the server sees a wired connection.
