Hallo I want to set up a new FreeNAS PC but I can't start the installation.
I burned the 9.3 ISO to a CD, but when I try to start the installation on the PC the Grub rescure shows up and tells me "error unknown file system". I tried a few commands I found but sooner or later I get another error with says "no such partition". I even disconected all the drives exept the USB where I want to install FreeNAAS on but it doesn't seem to change anything.
Can someone help me I realy would like to understand the problem not just solve it blindy but I have no idea where to start.
Probably need to know a little about the hardware your using, but first thing to check is if the USB thumb drive (drive should be around 8gb in size) you are wanting to install to is being seen in the BIOS, you should leave the other drives disconnected until you have a working install, they can be added after the fact.
It's an 16gb usb2 flash drive. The pc is an Intel Core two quad i think Q9000 smth like that have to look when I'm home it also has 8 gb ram. The CD is in an external usb drive and in the bios I can see all the HDD's before I diconected them also the USB stick shoved up.
Anything else you need to know?
I will upload pictures later.
So the only question is does the MB BIOS support booting from a USB device other than your CD ROM? I'm guessing it does so just disconnect the other drives and try the install again if it doesn't work there might be something wrong with the file you burnt to the CD, you can always fall back to v9.2 stable and after the install upgrade to 9.3 through the options in FreeNas.
So my motherboard is an Asus P5N-D, I updated the bios and rechecked all the booting options.
The usb drive is the only available option in the harddrive boot order, I set the boot order to CD -> Harddisk.
I downloaded FreeNAS 9.2 burned it to as disk and waited. I got to the BSD menu and selected single user [2].
This is wehere it is right now :/
mabye try the CD agian but with an internal CD Drive instead of usb?
I just rebooted the machine with the same disk and it worked, got it running and turned the disk all on, they showed up on the list I guess it worked.
Congratulations!
Thanks it's running good until now
