We are looking for an alternative backup solution to Crashplan. We want to backup files over the Internet to our own server and the software must run as a service. Any suggestions?
How about starting with the operating system you intend to do this on/to?

Try Veeam enpoint, free for Linux and Windows
In addition to that, it would be nice to know what exactly you need and why Crashplan is not sufficient anymore.
Sorry for the late reply and nondescript post. I'm scatterbrained. We are currently using Crashplan to backup client files automatically at many different sites to our storage server at our office. All of our clients run Windows. However, it seems to be somewhat unreliable and slow, and the app is very buggy and prone to crashes.
