You should give this a read Low-cost 3D printers and crowdfunding suicide It goes over the use of crowd funding for all of these 3D printer startups and common flaws in their funding strategies and doing the math.
Their original goal of 100k is way too low for this to be feasible but hopefully now that they have reached over 700k maybe they have a chance of succeeding. I'm usually very skeptical whenever there is any new 3D printer on kickgogofunder. All of the features promised like the interchangeable head (is there any safety features for the laser engraver? imagine if that laser hit something shiny) 3d scanner, and the software seem way to ambitious especially for that 100k goal.
That said, if they can pull this off this looks like it would be a great little printer. Interchangeable tools would be the feature I'm most interested in, i have been thinking about modding my replicator to attach different tools to it. I'd prefer a 3d scanner to be separate from the printer, this would free up the printer to print while you scan and work on the next print but that's more of a preference.
When you do get the printer you should share your experience with it.
