First PC Build advice

Parts: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rC1D

Cpu:  AMD FX-6300

Gpu: XFX Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition (XFX FX-787A-CDBC)

Motherboard: Asus SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 ATX

Psu: SeaSonic S12II 620W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified

case: Thermaltake VL800P1W2N

I am adding this all up to be about $780. If possible I would like to get it down towards the $600 mark. The problem is I don't know what to cut. The only thing I wouldn't like to downgrade on is the Gpu seeing as this machine will be primarily used for gaming. Besides whether all the components are compatible, another question I had was should I be getting a mobo with Pci 3 for the 7870? Is it worth getting?

The only thing I can tell you right now is, don't get an 8120, especially for a gaming rig. Get an FX-6300 instead.

Thanks for the advice. I made the the change and put it on pcpartpicker.com

To cut cost on my rig, especially if you go on new egg as you choose the parts, on the item page scroll down and it will say browse more combos and you can see what you can bundle together to save money. for example i got a a free pack of 2x4GB 1600 ram with my mobo and i bundled my cpu with a cooler for an extra 2$ it can really add up.

I made it as cheap as possible

I just basically put the same part, only cheaper. I didn't skimp on anything though. Nice case BTW.

If you don't like how the GFX card looks( even though it will be in the case most of the times), you could get this instead. I picked the HIS one mainly on cooling.

Thanks for the advice both of you. I am liking the look of what you posted Z. And I'm going to take your advice rcpunk and poke around on newegg for a bit.
