I want a build that I can add on to as I get the money. I saw the review for the ASUS Rampage V Extreme - X99 ROG Motherboard and really liked it. I want to keep the build around 800-1000 dollars (just whats inside the box [not the keyboard monitors, just hardware inside the box). I would like to be able to add a second graphic card. I want the setup to be somewhat like windles on the tek, but with 4 screens (2 big ones and 2 little ones hanging off the side). I want to be able to build it in stages, so some ideas on parts and what I should get would be very helpful. Thanks for the input.
For $1000, you're definitely not going to be able to get x99 unless you bump the the budget to at least $2000.
and that would be entry level
This will game strong for $1000
- AMD FX-4350 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
- Cooler Master Hyper 212
- ASRock 960GM/U3S3 FX Micro ATX
- G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
- Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD
- Seagate Barracuda 3TB
- Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB Vapor-X Video Card
- Cooler Master N300 ATX Mid Tower Case
- Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer

If this was for me I would spend $25 more and get a case with sound dampening like ...
Fractal Design
Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl)

^this. X99 is an enthusiast platform.
Surely you can have better performance...

- Yes .. but is 120GB SSD really big enough given the size of the next gen games?
- Is there really any improvement (in real world gaming) between an FX4350 4 core CPU @4.2Ghz & an FX6350 8 core CPU @ 4.0Ghz
Wendell* ;)
and yeah.. X99 for $1000..... no way jose. MAYBE you could scrunch together a build and then get a R7 260 lol
i would make a solid $1000 gaming build.. but part of me thinks this was a troll post lol
actually, i have been looking at benchmarks of the 4690k and the 8350, and the 4690k destroys the 8350 in every gaming benchmark i have seen. HOWEVER, 120 is more than enough SSD space. games will be put on a hard drive.
If the 4690K destroys the 8350 in most benchmarks(and yes, I know it does), then it'll pretty much obliterate a FX-4350.
The question was ...
Is there really any improvement (in real world gaming) between an FX4350 4 core CPU @4.2Ghz & an FX6350 8 core CPU @ 4.0Ghz
I don't know where the Intel parts got into this question
I didn't expect the motherboard to be 1000 dollars that's some bs..
And the processor in both those builds is kinda weak don't you think?
- no the cheapest x99 mobo so far is around $250
- the DDR4 is insanely expensive
- the CPU is a new socket 2011-3 and very expensive still
- just these 3 things are over $1000 and you still need the following items
- higher end GPU $300+
- higher end PSU $150+
- high end CPU cooler $$$
- case $$$
- hard drives $$$
- any other things you want $$$
- If you want a good X99 based rig you are looking at around $2100 minimum
Do you think I should wait till more x99 stuff comes out, will I get more bang for my buck?
*edit: With the setups posted would I be able to run 2-3 monitors and game boss as hell?
It'll take awhile until X99 becomes somewhat feasible. DDR4 will likely be highly priced for quite some time. However, $1000 won't really cut it on any LGA2011 platform, as you really need a good graphics card rather than a good CPU for gaming(with LGA2011's main feature being the strong CPUs)
If you want to run a surround setup(game on all 3 screens), you will want to look into some high end dual-GPU configurations. Something like 2 GTX 770s, or 2 R9 290s. With two cards comes a need for higher wattage power supplies, ranging from 750-850w.
yes
My bad. i was reading 3 different TekSyndicate posts at once <.<
but yes, the 8350 (which i assume you meant. as the 6350 is not a 4.0Ghz 8-core, it is a 3.9Ghz 6-core) would be a big improvement over the 4350.
Besides gaming what else do you need it for. for gaming you won't now or ever need an x99 platform. By the time games start to use 6 or 8 intel cores you won't want it. It will be out of date.
This might be in the form of a new bus you need for GPU's An instruction set that your processor does not support. Anything really
I know they try to sell to gamers buts its BS you can't even use all of the power in an i5 when gaming. So relax and stick with z97.
I guess what I'm asking is for a build I can grow into, something upgradeable, Something I could get running for 800 dollars and then add on to it as the money comes in.
