Hey guys, recently I asked around for the best PSU/GPU for my system I got some great help but the prices for the stuff recommended was ridiculous for New Zealand carriers ($500-700) and that's just for the GPU.. (660ti) so I had another look around based on the advice I got...
And I've narrowed it down to a GTX650: http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=VGAEVG2650&name=EVGA-GeForce-GTX650-1GB-128-bit-GDDR5-PCI-Express-
And the PSU: http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=PSUCOR0653&name=CORSAIR-650W-HX-650v2-ATX12V-v2.31-and-EPS-2.92-Po
I'm trying to keep the prices under $350
I'm just wondering are these two things okay for my motherboard.. I'm not very good with PC hardware just starting out, this will be my first revamp.
I've probably made some very amatuer mistake but I made sure the basics were covered, stuff like the PSU having enough power to handle the card and that the card would fit in my PC but as for the detailed stuff I'm not too sure about so that's why you guys are here
ANY concerns do tell me I don't want my house burning down lol.
How is the weather over in New Zealand? Good sir that powersupply is massive for your system, a quality 450w power supply will do the job well and save you some money also.
I went for the big powersupply because I figured I may need a bigger GPU in future so I could just replace that I'm sure the price of more high-end cards now will come down a lot over the next few years so if I can run those in future off this PSU I'll be set!
I'm not a graphics nut really I can play and do play games on low most of the time but y'know I'm still playing battlefield badcompany on lowest possible settings and that's about my limit (only 15fps)
so it'd be nice just to get those frames up and maybe handle future games on medium - high with decent fps!
Thanks for your reply john.
This is the card correct? http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=VGASAP7770&name=Sapphire-HD7770-GHZ-EDITION-1G-GDDR5-PCI-E-Video-c
Ah planning for the future is always good, a 550w is more then sufficient for almost any graphics card upgrade you can get for your system. Here this is a HD7950 a fairly powerful card that will torture a lot of games, with a 3960X overclocked and the 7950 the system only pulls 353 watts from the wall. That is quite low considered how much power the OC 3960 pulls itself.http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/550
650w is more for SLI and Crossfire systems, you can get it and be fine but if you are going to stick to single GPU a quality 550w will do nicely for a very long time. Here is a wonderful power supply calculator you can use to figure out a rough watt estimate you should aim for with different cards:http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
Personally i have no experience with coolermaster power supplies but the specs on that one look properly good! Your system will definitely play some good games at good resolutions, of course you can always get a stronger card ;) If you like it with the HD7770 well sir go buy it and have fun! Make sure you come back when you get your system together and tease us with the new hardware.
Get more power than it says, future proofing and is alot safer, as much as it sucks paying alot for something that doesn't actually effect the performance it's definitely a good investment!
