Favorite ROM

Im sick of running vanilla Android on my s3 and am interested in flashing a new ROM. Please list your favorites and why. Thanks in advance

Cyanogenmod, because it works nice.

Paranoidandroid, because its clean and fast and good.

Apart from maybe AOKP )which ive not heard much of recently), everything else is just a derivative of these two as far as im aware.

That was pretty fast. I've heard loads about Cyanogenmod but not so much about paranoidandroid. Im open to other things like sailfish or other lesser known ROMS as well but I'm not much for gesture based only solutions.

Cynogen has an installer for Galaxy phones, get that because no manual work, win

  • LiquidSmooth is pretty good - reasonably stable for most things - running this now myself ~ Note 2
  • Cyanogenmod - works great and is stable for the most part - best feature is the extreme ease of install for a first timer.
  • DirtyUnicorns - Pretty close to the best Lollipop rom around - most things work really well - mms for my device is broken though. Will run this again once fixed - incredible performance and battery life.
  • SlikKat - very light and fast. Pretty good on battery life as well. Used it on my old S2 - was a rock solid ROM.

Cyanogen has been my favorite by far because I like a stock android experience and I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 right now so it really helps the performance stay valid.

I like cynogen but had issues with it like it not seeing the phones number and the activation tries to do it on the wrong network, was using slimkat for quite some time. Now im on liquidsmooth, it's very nice.

I only really use hangouts, maps, twitter and facebook so i can't give a vary wide review of it. I think from now on I'm just going to pick up the google edition phones. The whole reason i got rid of the stock one was touchwiz and the shit samsung puts on phones.

GS 4

You're in luck I have the same phone! Currently the best literally the best combo available until maybe Exodus if/when supports the d2 goes like so. Odin flash the best recovery it's easy. Here is Odin http://odindownloader.com/ Here is the recovery you want https://twrp.me/Devices/ pick your carrier version of the s3 youtube odin flash sgs3. If you have the sprint version of d2 you're lucky and can use Exodus if not use DHO's version of vanir ROMS-->Exodus: http://www.vanir-exodus.net/exodus-5.1/d2spr/ or w/e other version of s3 you have or DHOs: http://www.emccann.net/dho/3-Vanir-mirror/4-nighties/06-04-2015_L511_nightly/ GAPPS: http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=banks&device=gapps ROOT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133 KERNEL: http://www.mediafire.com/download/zhbzim608f7k53m/dkp-aosp51-d2-20150529.zip Those are the files you'll need reboot to your new recovery of TWRP Wipe everything install in this order ROM GAPPS SUPERSU KERNEL wipe cache and dalvik when done flashing and reboot. sorry for the wall of text haha.

Oh one critical thing I missed is you really need to update the baseband of the phone, Really need to know which carrier you're using so we know what version of the S3 you have!

Personally I use stock lollipop + ubuntu touch on my nexus 5 (made a post about it here)

but if there is no ubuntu touch for your device, only other ROM i know of is cyanogenmod, i have it on my tab and it is quite good

I am using and really like Omni rom. Fast clean and looks very AOSP mostly because it is. I have also customised it a lot.

CyanogenMod 12.1

To everyone I appreciate all the feedback and I use straight talk as my carrier and purchased the phone through them

About phone says sgh-i747 right? They use att networks it has to be that aka d2att google sgs3 nj1 baseband xda dev

the last mod i used on my s3 was carbon rom. why? it was super stable.

Went back to liquid smooth kitkat after using CyanogenMod 12.1 and stock 5.1.1 for a while. Don't regret it in the least. Better battery life, better performance and (in my opinion) a better looking system.

My favorite is Slimkat 4.4.4. It's very light and really improves the performance of my cheap, low-powered phone. I think it looks pretty good too and it has Privacy Guard built in, which is very useful.
