Fake USB 2TB HDD

Bought a pair of 2TB USB SSD on Amazon. 4.7 star rating average from 15’ish users. Got them to temporarily store PC images and ISO’s for my home lab.

Put 1.4 TB of data on one of them and the file list looked good. Tried moving an ISO to a server and it failed. Repeated the process with the second unit and same issue. Dug in deeper and eventually used a Linux program called F3 to determine they were fake. Announced size was 1.91TB but max usable space was 58.80 GB. Both units were identical.

Mainland Chinese company who has received series of 1 star reviews since I bought them. Product has been removed from sale. Just an FYI. I took the hit so you don’t have too! :stuck_out_tongue:

Yep, unfortunate for you but this isn’t really new. Search for “2TB Flash Drive” on Amazon and you get thousands of results. They are ALL scams, and Amazon has no interest in doing anything about it.

Modern Amazon is a cesspit that’s less reliable than eBay. Nothing will happen until someone files a lawsuit that costs them more than they’re making from ignoring these listings.

Was new to me, unfortunately. I posted more to educate about the F3 program than the bad drives. Amazing piece of code. Works on flash drives as well.
