I drink Green Tea regularly, i didn't even know L-Theanine was in it. i need to read the box of my teas much more often now >.< I drink non-caffeinated tea, i don't know if the boost of this chemical will be more effective or not without the caffeine.

Woa, a how to live video and a NAS video in one day. I can hardly contain my excitement.

Drugs in coffee? Seems a bit strange. lol

I would consider caffeine more of a drug than L-Theanine.

it might as well be one considering about 90% of people consume caffeine in the form of soda, coffee, tea, or even in some foods. I used to get my caffeine intake primarily from Soda, (I used to have a bad caffeine addiction) but i stopped that and switched to De-caffeinated Tea. but i still have a disturbingly mild addiction to fizzy drinks so i just replaced coke or pepsi with Seltzer water.

If you need the boost of energy, eating an apple and a drinking a cup of water in the morning is a good alternative. the energy comes from the apple naturally, plus you don't want to gain the yellowish teeth that comes from drinking coffee. AND don't skip breakfast. that is also the killer of energy. (if you do that) And having an irregular sleeping schedule can mess with how you feel in the morning. the body doesn't like change (unless it's a healthy change of course like working out or what-not) but sleeping lets say at four in the morning one day, and then the following day sleep like at 10 at night, your body starts to say (Hey what the hell are you doing, choose a sleeping schedule AND STICK WITH IT) and as for the crash you may get, your body naturally makes a Caffeine-like chemical. once you start to in-take artificial caffiene (like from coffee) your body stops developing the natural chemical. cause your body knows you're going to get the caffeine cause of your coffee in-take.

I've stopped drinking soda for a few months now for this reason, it feels good. I still drink coffee though because it's rather difficult to get through a day (desk job) without a little caffeine. I think all the sugar/ corn starch in soda is much worse than caffeine. Although I usually only sip coffee throughout the day, probably only 2 cups or so of coffee/ day.

I'll have to try out L-Theanine sometime though.

@Logan This is true, but I always took you for an all natural kinda guy, this seems like a change of pace (not that L-Theanine is unnatural it's just abnormal)

L-Theanine naturally occurs in green tea. What's not natural about it? The strange name?

The more I think about it it's not anything different than putting sugar in coffee. But yeah the strange name kinda gives it a weird vibe. Sounds like a strange chemical rather than something natural.

most organic chemicals have strange names. some you wouldn't even realize. if you've ever taken Organic chemistry in high school some of it wouldn't appear as strange.

for example "Docosahexaenoic Acid" is a natural chemical found in Salmon. studies have shown it keeps your brain healthy (even to the extreme as making your smart) or at least keep people from being stupid.

I've never heard of Organic Chemistry, at least not at a highschool level. Interesting though, I've never put much thought in this area. I'll consider myself enlightened.

cool story (takes sip of cold freshly opened bottle of Coke)

to keep it simple, Organic chemistry is just the study of Carbon based molecules and compounds. funnily enough when you buy food in the supermarket, of course they may have an "Organic" section. they just mean it doesn't have additive chemicals like pesticides or chemical fertilizers For example when growing plants people will use fertilizers. these fertilizers contain Ammonia [Chemical formula NH3] which is found in some house hold cleaning products. in a scientific fashion, When talking about something being Organic, they mean it has the element carbon in it, like us, we're all carbon based life-forms.

oh and to keep the conversation going, the reason Coke has that dark color is from caramel and Ammonium salts lol

I didnt know about the ammonium salts. Also see above picture for wow

I've heard of this before. It's typically mixed within 'health' powders for people who do heavy free-weights and bench extremely large amounts of weight so they can stay focused and not kill themselves with the weights they lift. I suppose if a steroid freak can use it to stay focused when lifting 600lbs above his jugular laying down, then I suppose it should be fine in extremely small quantities with liquid once every two days (lift days are typically every two days) for the average desk jockey.

I would never push the limit on this stuff though. Once you rewire your brain, your brain takes forever to heal. You would also need to flush this out of your system before taking more (kidney/liver damage if you're not careful). Consider this as like a moderately sized aspirin for a headache...it will work, but you have to give it time and relax yourself beforehand.

Consider Green Tea as a direct alternative everyone.

Adderall and Ephedra (crack can be substituted if you want a more mellow energy boost) make for a great energy and concentration boost. Just cut them up, mix them together, do a line off the back of a Cheetah, and punch a bear in the face (this part is optional, but I find it enhances the experience). Great for late night study sessions that devolve into Thunderdome type, "two men enter, one man leaves" style blood sports. Or Counter-Strike tournaments.

Obviously I'm joking here. It's nearly impossible to get a Cheetah to stand still long enough to snort anything off it's back. A cougar on the other hand...
