I’ve got an IODD ST400 external drive bay that incorporates a virtual HD image mounter.
For Windows, I can either set up a virtual removable USB stick and use Windows to Go, or set up an actual virtual external hard drive and install the full version of Windows 10 or 11.
For a portable firmware updating/troubleshooting/diagnostic install, which way would you go?
I’m inclined to use a full install just because the Windows To Go versions have limitations I don’t entirely understand.
Are you trying to boot from a DVD image, or mount it in Windows 98?
I’d have to set up a VM to try it, which I’m not ready to do yet unfortunately (still setting up my first Proxmox server). But: This device is intended first and foremost to make ISO images appear to a computer as though they were CDs/DVDs, so that part should work if the hardware in your Windows 98 PC is compatible with the USB interface on this thing. I’m not sure about that.
it can also mount what appear to the PC to be removable USB storage devices (USB flash sticks, etc.), and virtual HDD images.
