Espionage books Recommendations?

Does anyone know any good espionage story books?

Any of the original Bond novels?

On the other hand, if you prefer learning over entertainment, check out The Code Book... or maybe it was The Cipher Book... by I forget his name, but it's Indian or otherwise ethnic. (My memory's horrible for European names too, so just calm please)

I haven't read any bond novels. The casino royal is good?.

This one I know. Ian Fleming. If they're not written by him, they're not original, probably better avoided.

A little late to the party but I can't resist recommending Robert Littel's - The Company.
It's about the beginning of the CIA up to the end of the cold war, absolutely awesome book and one of my favourites (albeit quite a long one haha).

EDIT: Also Robert Ludlums - The Bourne Identity! Can't believe I forgot about that one!

EDIT: EDIT: The Spy Who Came in From the Cold - John Le Carre haha, sorry about the edits! It's been a while since I've read my espionage collection :)

The Splinter Cell novels are OK

The Other Side of Deception - Victor Ostrovsky
Sadly it's a true story. About the Mossad in the 80's.

I watched "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" the movie, and if the book is as good, I would reccomend it to everyone. But I haven't bought it yet.

Casino Royale is excellent. I'm 45% thru From Russia With Love, and I like it even more than Casino Royale. I had a hard time getting into Live and Let Die, but I might re-visit it after From Russia with Love. The books are way different than the films, and I think you'll be surprised.

john le carre
robert ludlum
some of the patterson stuff
lee child
tom clancy
robert heinleim has some sci fi spy books
tamorra peirce has magic spy books with female protagonist
clive cussler

i work at a library and these books all get read to death and are held together by glue and tape.

The Splinter Cell books are a 3/10, games are much better
Ian Fleming's James Bond books are old school, not very high tech, but still amazing
"39 steps" is a good read, "The spy who came in from the cold" is a good read, and Ludlum's stuff is good, hence the Borne movies.

I don't care about the tech i care about the technique and style

A Spy Among Friends : Kim Philby and The GReat Betrayal
by Ben Macintyre

Kill Decision - Daniel Suarez

This is the movie about Kim Philby right?

If it is then read "A Spy among Friends, Kim Philby and the Great Betrayal" by Ben Macintyre. It is an amazing read and if the movie is anything like the book I can't wait to see the film.

Just looked it up, looks like it's the same setting, but Tinker Taylor focuses on the hunt for the mole from Smileys (Gary Oldman) perspective...

I'm definitely going to look up that book too, thanks for the suggest.
