Enabling HDR on Asus OLED Laptop Linux

Good Evening,

Now that KDE Plasma’s HDR Support is good enough to be usable (in my experience, using this laptop with external monitors), I’d like to have the option of using the OLED Display on my Asus Laptop in HDR mode. The Laptop is an Asus Zenbook ux535LI, with a 4k OLED Touchscreen.

I’ve set the KWIN_DRM_ALLOW_INTEL_COLORSPACE=1 in my environment variables, but the HDR toggle is still not appearing in System Settings. kscreen-doctor -o doesn’t report the display as HDR capable, which it obviously is, as it’s OLED, and works perfectly fine for HDR in Windows, at least, last time I used Windows.

What else do I need to do to make this work? The display is connected to the integrated intel 10th gen iGPU.

Thanks

HDR only works on Wayland. If you’re in an X11 session the toggle won’t be there in any constellation.

I’m on kernel 6.13.5, Plasma 6.3.2 Wayland, and I’ve checked again that the environment variable is set using echo "$KWIN_DRM_ALLOW_INTEL_COLORSPACE" from the command line, which prints 1. I’ve checked the EDID of the display as well, and it seems to be reposting HDR capabilities just fine. Do you have any idea why it’s not working?

Any chance you figured this out? I have an s14 that I’m trying to get HDR working on Ubuntu, but the option doesn’t show. Thanks!
