So… Neither Visual Studio Code nor Skype have had the ability to connect to the internet for several months now. At first, I thought that it was just VS Code (https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/83860), but then earlier today I remembered that Discord stopped working a while back, only the desktop application, while Skype had also not been working for a long time (since July).
Does somebody know what is going on here?
I assume you use linux. Maybe something went awry with its containerization? What have you updated lately?
Gentoo. Lately… as in during July? I can’t recall that far back. Also, what is this containerization which you speak of?
Arent Skype and Discord essentially the same as their respective web version, just put in their own container/sandboxed app?
For Discord, yes. I have had a Discord tab open in Firefox ever since. For Skype, it doesn’t matter because of https://www.skype.com/en/unsupported-browser/. Even with those two out of the picture, VS Code is not a website shoved into Electron, so… They are separate applications, but I would not call them sandboxed. That would actually be a hindrance for VS Code if it were the case.
Yes, but only with --no-proxy-server. Skype, as I mentioned in the reply linked above, does not wish to start with the aforementioned parameter, so…
Well, now that I know what’s going on, it’s only a matter of time for this to be resolved in Electron itself.
