Dig around for a couple of hours and found out macOS does not come with a built-in Android mirroring option. I want to cast the Android phone screen to my 27 inch iMac so I can easily type and control android phone from my mac.

The Android phone is Samsun Galaxy S25. the iMac is Apple M4 chip running the latest macOS Tahoe.
Apple designs macOS to work seamlessly with its own ecosystem using a proprietary protocol called AirPlay, while Android devices are built to use open standards like Miracast and Google Cast. Since these two protocols don’t understand each other, your Mac doesn’t have a built-in way to directly mirror an Android screen on macOS.
This situation isn’t unique. It’s similar to why you can’t use AirPlay to mirror your iPhone to most non-Apple smart TVs, as those TVs primarily support Miracast for Android devices . Each ecosystem has intentionally built its own exclusive highway.

Using Android’s Built-in “Cast” feature to mirror Android to Mac can be a convenient option if your Android device supports it. Here’s how it works in simple terms:
First, you’ll need to check if your Android device has the “Cast” or “Screen Mirroring” option in the quick settings menu. Most modern Android phones have this feature. To access it, swipe down from the top of your screen to open the quick settings panel, then look for an icon labeled “Cast,” “Screen Cast,” or “Smart View.”
Next, ensure that your Mac is compatible with receiving cast signals. While Macs don’t natively support Google Cast (which is common on Chromebooks and some Android TVs), there are third-party applications that enable your Mac to act as a receiver for cast signals.
How to mirror Android to Mac:
Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network: Make sure both your Android device and your Mac are connected to the same Wi-Fi network for the casting to work smoothly.
Start casting from your Android device: Open the quick settings menu on your Android and tap on “Cast” or “Screen Mirroring.” Your Mac, running the cast receiver app, should appear in the list of available devices.
