Ok i having trouble with my rig, i keep getting a bunch of errors in windows saying "Serious Disk Error Writing Drive C:\ " among other things saying i have a hard drive problem, and some saying the disk controller is not working.
I am not at my rig,and i was letting someone else use it,i asked them to try and run malware bytes, and and it said it failed to install cause of permission or something like that.
I am thinking it is a virus, but my mom(who was using it)is scared it is a hard drive problem and scared whe messed up my $1500 pc.
If this helps i am using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, installed on a OCZ Agility 3 60GB, that i bought back in april.
I tried to boot into safe mode with networking like it said to and it stopped part way into it,and froze,I then tried to boot into windows like normal and it got stuck on the windows icon, when did keep moving, but windows never booted,i am posting this from my laptop, what should i do to fix it?
If the virus is trying to make you pay, or install something to fix it. It's a virus; if not, then it may be a dying hard drive, but I've personally never seen that error/message.
When you get back, install Hijack This, and post your logs, maybe someone will notice something that shouldn't be there.
Before doing that, though do the following:
1) Turn on hidden folder/file visibility
2) Go to %APPDATA% (Both local, and roaming) and delete everything that doesn't look normal.
3) Delete everything in %TEMP%
4) Regedit.exe => Check CurrentUser => run/runonce, and also wininit (I think, Zues (A banking trojan) would install in there).
4.5) Check the same paths in LocalMachine
5) Check Startup Folder.
6) If all comes up clean, run Hijack This, post your logs, then do a full virus scan with a good antivirus. I cannot stress enough the importance of the word good when used in corrolation with the word Antivirus. Norton is not a good antivirus. Get Kaspersky, or Avira, or Avast, or Bitdefender, etc.
so i dont know if this is where i go to get help but i must first start off by saying that i an new to computers i was ignorant in thinking i could solve any problem that may come along by myself so here it goes my computer was running normaly and i was watching a vidio on youtube i step away for a minuite and all of asudden when i come back the screen is going from normal to black and it did that a few times then restarted by itself immediatly after it restarted it installed a program and that was it for a bit . i got sus so i looked at a few things i was told to look at hidden files but i did not touch anything because i didnt feel comfertable messing with stuff i didnt know about but anyways i looked under network and there were 2 computers not 1 im the only one in the house with a computer so i thought tht was weird anyways again i start poking around and all of a sudden my computer goes glitchy and then the 2nd computer just dissapeared any help would be appreciated on this matter thankyou if it helps i have an acer aspire E11 i know its lowspec but it was only supposed to be a placeholder untill i got a job
If it was a hard drive (or ssd) problem, the motherboard would have freaked out before you even knew. It would notify you on every boot with a message like "S.M.A.R.T. check failed, bad disk drive. Back up and replace immediately!". I guess your best bet (and easiest fix) is backing up and reinstalling windows... It shouldn't be a problem backing up if you are only getting write errors. Usually it is less of a hassle then getting a virus program to run, in your case. But if it fails installing windows, it is a hard drive problem which isn't a "hard" fix either. Just replace the drive and install windows. Once you are set plug your other drive and get your files back.
