Hi I have a Hitatchi HDT721010SLA360 1TB and its dying any fixes because its my only storage drive as i only have a 256 gb Crucial MX100 ssd and a 80gb WD which is hardly any storage.
The files that are on the 1TB is just for storage and can do die in a fire if it wants to but i need it for downloads since i dont want to fill up my small ssd.
it was pulled out from a Acer Aspire pre built and has survived this long. http://imgur.com/MubqiZ9
EDIT: I NEED THIS HARD DRIVE SINCE ALL OF MY SKYRIM MODS ARE ON IT.
when a HDD starts to die, it's time to get a new one as they are not meant to last forever. some people have had success with "spin rite" although i haven't used it, to sort out a few problems temporarily.
I think you are over reacting to the S.M.A.R.T data.
I don't know why it has flagged "Current Pending Sector Count" and "Reallocated Sectors" are normal to be seen during a disks life, however you can't be too careful, so backup any important data.
A few quick questions then, has the drives performance become unstable recently (eg. OS saying its not there, long delay when accessing (smaller) directories, just slow performance on large file transfers) have you had any power loss recently? Sometimes drives get false flags when they unexpectedly shutdown. Any ticking? On power on, stuttered spin up?
If you want to try and fix it, backup all the important data and use something to 0 the drive. (CCleaner will do this under the Tools>Drive Wiper or DBAN) Most of the time that will clear out any pending reallocations and sometimes fix issues with re-allocated sectors. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF ALL IMPORTANT DATA
Yeah will do try to fix it and there were some ticking coming out of it but it has stopped and also Windows was giving me the error messages about the 1TB hard drive is not there being slow etc . It was in a preowned Acer Aspire computer that I yanked out but there was a power loss one time but my hardware seems to be affected dont know what happened with the previous owner since I bought the Acer at a pawnshop
Backup the old fashion way if you have to ~ dvd etc & start saving for a new drive.
That hdd could last another 5+yrs or last another month for what you're using it for. I dont tend to be bothered with smart errors until the speeds drop or shit starts breaking, then its 'salvage the magnet and add it to the fridge time'.
If you NEED the skyrim mods and refuse to go through the trouble of redownloading god knows how many, then BUY A NEW HARD DRIVE.
In the mean time you can unplug it from power. its got a bad sector, which means its failing. it could last you 6 months or 6 hours, but it is GOING TO FAIL.
i cant rma the hard drive it was in an acer aspire which was preowned (read my other comments) and yeah cant do it and even if i actually owned it it would be actually quite expensive to replace.
