Dwm.exe and dwmcore.dll error

just bulit a ryzen 5 1400 and rx460 4 gig build. when i load up battlegrounds the game freezes and you cant do anything in the main menu of the game without real bad input lag. this also happens with golf it ( free game on steam) and error popped up once saying the memory could not be written and i found the dwm.exe and dwncore.dll errrors in the event viewer. All drivers are up to date and the bios is up to date as well. the system has no malware and plays all other games except battlegrounds and golf it. i think its the windows creators update. anyone else have these problems or a solution thanks

You could try doing what some people do as workarounds for dwm.exe errors in Windows 10, and disable Fast Boot and see if that works.

Also, what is your current driver in use by your rx460, based on what device manager says? Probably should be AMD 17.7.2. Trying checking this after your crash as well (if you can). I’m curious if Windows if attempting to use it’s default driver for some reason when you start up PUBG. I’ve seen Windows do crazier things.

my driver is 17.7.2 but i seemed to fixed the problem when i installed the creators update. the game works now. any thoughts on this ?? also thank you for the help.

Could have been a couple things. Might have been a corrupted file, malware that hadn’t fully installed itself yet, an update gone wrong, or just Windows generally being dumb. It’s honestly hard to even guess, but if the creator’s update fixed it, awesome, What I would do, but is also time consuming: set updates to “check, but let me install” (assuming that’s still an option with 10) and verify them as needed to make sure they are compatible with your hardware. Also, make sure your antivirus is up to date (Malwarebytes is highly recommended, as a former Ransomware removal technician).

If you don’t have the time/understanding of Windows updates, just check your antivirus updates and set the Windows updates to automatically install. You really can’t turn the Windows updates off anymore, with all the crazy ransomwares and security vulnerabilities out there these days.

TL;DR: Glad you got it working.

thanks again for the help. im not sure if it was the creators update or something else i did lol. im no expert but im happy it works. i have malwarebytes and windows defender running. and you really have no control over updates in windows 10. the only thing you can set is what time microsoft can install them for you. windows can really be dumb

You said it! Good to know about the updates, I’ve been avoiding 10 like the plague.
