I do believe I have found a completely DRM-Free version of Steam. It is called 'Evolve'.

I, myself really like the structure of Steam, and, whilst DRM doesn't bother me all too much, I prefer to be without it. Therefore I buy from GOG quite a bit, but like I said, I like the structure of Steam. I found this whilst looking for a way to play Civ5 with my friend without using Steam, you can create 'parties', specify a game, launch that game, and when you host a game through LAN it connects you like Hamachi would, only more polished and simpler.
