I was wondering if there are any downsides to using Pihole instead of keeping the dns on automatic? (Apart from ads obviously)
I have the Pihole set for
Fire stick
iPhone alongside AdGuard extension in safari browser
iPad alongside AdGuard extension in safari browser
Windows 10 pc alongside ublock origin extension in edge browser
I am seeing good results after I added more of the blocklists from fire bog but I’m not very tech savvy when it comes to networking so I’m concerned I’m giving up security or privacy in some way by using it for dns

It’s probably a good bet to still use a browser blocker, to get rid of something like youtube ads, since they are served from the domain itself so the pihole won’t do much for those.
As for losing privacy, that’s just your paranoia. You are ‘more’ secure ™ by not routing your packets to all sorts of shady domains.
Only downsides I have seen is the annoyance of some websites or services breaking because some adlist I added broke it, so I would have to troubleshoot what blocked domain is causing the problem.
other than that, It’s worth it. I have YT premium so I don’t deal with YT ads.
