KVM Model:
1.4 Display Port KVM Switch - Single Monitor - Two Computer
SQ0823308
USB Interface (5-gigabit or 10-gigbit):
5-gigabit
Problem:
Does the Touch ID component on the Apple Magic Keyboard work when connected through the HID port of the KVM?
I have seen conflicting info across several posts, and just curious if anyone has actually tried this. I assume the answer is that all the keys would work, but that the touch ID would not? I also assume that everything would work if I connected it to one of the standard usb 3 ports on the KVM, but then I would lose the ability to use KVM hotkeys (Scrl Lock + Scrl Lock + #)?
I’m honestly not sure. If we have one at work I’ll test it for you.
Hotkeys do not work on the USB 3 ports, but I would have to test if the touch ID works. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone mention touch ID. Maybe @wendell knows
That would be great. Please let me know. If y’all don’t have one to test with, I’ll probably buy one to try it out within the return window and report back.
After testing, the “Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad for Mac Models with Apple Silicon“ fully does not work using the HID ports. Neither the keyboard, nor the touchid functions when connected to those ports. Keyboard works fine on USB3, but obviously no hotkey support there.
Thank you for testing as I was not able to find one here.
Sounds like in that case a macroboard would be best for hotkey control. Or maybe the numpad option.
