Thank god I haven’t gotten rid of my Anycubic Predator yet, even if is a massive delta printer that takes up a ton of space.

The proprietary connect DRM software contained the private key and someone already extracted it. This is software that Bambulabs forced on people to communicate with the printer when on newer firmware.

Also if you got X1C and don’t care about voiding warranty install this custom firmware that gives ssh access to the printer that you paid for. No one knows whether this will continue to be installable in the future.

Have an X1C and I’m pissed about this. I’ve come up with a list of things to do to fight back against Bambu for doing this:

  1. Immediately cancel any order that you have.
  2. Stop buying parts, accessories or filament from them.
  3. Take any of your designs off of their repository or at least put your designs back on other platforms so they lose their exclusivity.
  4. Don’t promote their brand any longer. Tell friends and family who are interested in the hobby to avoid them.
  5. Give them a negative review on Trustpilot or any other online company review platform.
  6. Spread the word about the firmware issue to everyone so they know not to update if that’s important to them.
  7. Encourage the lawsuit being fought by Stratasys against Bambu to continue on. (I’ll admit, this one’s a bit controversial considering the implications for the larger 3d printing community and other manufacturers that a Stratasys win could have.)
  8. Load X1 Plus. Although, the future of this has called into question whether or not this will be allowed or if they will attempt to lock this down as well.
  9. Encourage You-tubers, reviewers, influencers, etc. to disengage from Bambu and stop promoting their stuff, take down favorable reviews and actively criticize the company.
  10. Don’t even think about buying their new printer they’re intending to release soon. You can guess what kind of firmware is coming on that one.

Anyone else got any ideas about how we can fight back?

i have the A1 Mini, i think i’m in the 14 day return period but i bet shipping will be an arm and leg to send it back, but, i think i’m gonna try to send it back. fuk’em

you don’t have to promote bad court president, we could also crowd source a lawsuite on it’s own merrits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5RvoPQZQeM

Yeah what a shame - was looking into getting a Bambu printer, but not anymore!! :frowning:

Same. Was just about to pull the trigger on getting one, too. Their loss.

Their response. Updates and Third-Party Integration with Bambu Connect

Not buying it. Especially since they show no remorse for their decision or show indication that they are willing to explore an alternative to accomplish this “Security Feature” in another manner.

Giving the “option” for Full Developer LAN mode is just that. They…, are giving, you… an option… that they can just take away whenever they want to. I hope this decision, and the fallout from it, stifles the sales of their new printer and folks just look for alternatives. If the backlash to this is severe enough, other manufacturers might take note and not attempt the same crap in the future.

I was really looking forward to the new machine myself with all of the leaks that had come out. Now it appears that I will just have to keep the money and save a few extra pennies for a Prusa XL 5 head when the urge strikes me.

Oh this is interesting too. Checked on a Youtube comment under another video regarding the matter. They exclude their blog site from being archived on the Wayback Machine.

Guess I’ll drop this here. Care for any Level 1 Predictions?

I saw this post covered on Wan show and Louis’s take

This was definitely a very well curated article. I wouldn’t be surprised if like Linus said, the author has some experience in PR or (I had thought that) perhaps they asked ChatGPT to come up with a good blog post format and edited it a bit or something. Either way it is a great resource and clearly defines the problem and some of the ways we can respond to it.

It’s been a hot minute Jeff.

You should get your own corner on the forum and rant about random things (although if I had my own website, I’d probably be blogging there myself as well). Well, maybe you can cross-post or post updates here (I’m technically subbed to your RSS, but I never check most of my RSS feeds).

Naomi Wu pushed for opensource progress and Bambu is taking a major step backwards

She was silenced and in her absence the scene has begun to decay

i’m torn between VLANing/firewalling it from internet or sending it back. i take a $60 hit sending it back. and the prusa MMU3 takes up a lot of space for multifilament.
Creality is going the same way but, they EVENTUALLY open source thier firmwares they they take form Klipper, technically they violate the GPL3 by delaying the open source but you can indeed re flash your creality with open source firmwares.

thats kind of not right to delay it for so many months but, thats a far step better than bambu

So I was just on twitter and they made a statement they are aware their encryption is compromised for connect

That may be the cause of reauthorization, I would not use that feature and roll back your firmware asap
