Am considering a dedicated DNS server for WAN and LAN use, possibly even sell as a service.
Considering AM4 MB with ECC support and here it is a Ryzen Pro 3-3200GE cpu. 4 core, about 35w. Good idea?
DNS is a pretty vital service. How are you going to ensure uptime for you customers?
For just DNS ? Or also routing?
For just DNS that is way over dimensioned IMO. DNS is just a query of domain name to IP. It can run easily on a raspberry pi.
Edit: oh, you want to host? Self hosting a DNS publicly is not trivial as far as I know. Your ISP may not like it and it may be hard to secure.
Sell? For $$$? DNS? In 2023/4?
Good luck!
I’m running a windows 2022 on a old amd 4core 2ghz apu with 8gb of ram, Its also doing a dns server and domain controller duty’s. That old cpu isn’t breaking a sweat doing this. So you can ask that ryzen 3 to do that and then some more.
