Looking for a good DIY DAC kit, one that actually sounds decent. USB, and 1/4 jack would be nice. But nothing super expensive. Any help?
I'm a noob to audio. But love projects.

Good luck. The only ones I've ever found were pupDAC, grubDAC, and SkeletonDAC, each of which requires soldering SMD parts onto the PCB. If you haven't soldered SMD chips before take it from me, they're a plain old bitch to solder unless you know exactly what you are doing.
I'd go with a bare ODAC board or stripping of the casing of another DAC if you want a special enclosure.
EDIT: If you just want to DIY an audio device you can get O2 kits from Mayflower, JDS Labs, or Head 'n' Hifi.
I had found the Skeleton and grubDAC on some forms awhile back, forgot about those. Watched some videos of people using solder paste for SMD and it looked pretty fun to try, but I'll have to check out the Mayflower kit. Looks really good.
Thanks for the suggestions!
