A quick recommendation for something I just found.

Not quite finished but functional enough to correct all the “decisions” Apple made for your pointing device. You can make side buttons work again, pointer- and scroll-acceleration can be controlled, even custom button mapping is supported.

Apple silicon native. Can also be installed with homebrew.

This utility has been around for a few years too.

I had been looking for a way to disable the palm rejection feature. My wife is an amputee, and her arm stumps were always ignored by trackpads, so she uses a mouse with her laptops.

Luckily she can use the trackpad on the m1 and later MacBooks without modifications.
