Long story short after getting a virus im stuck on ubuntu on a partition i made over my recovery drive due to space issues . and i still have access to my windows game library as i didn't want to full wipe my harddrive without knowing I could get rid of it (which i did). I really want to play final fantasy 14 but i need directx 9, and every search i make i get elitists who spout off about how you dont need directx on linux, but i did partially understand how it works. Apparently you can manually copy over a list of DLL overrides in wine to make it work, but basically right now im a fish out of water and could use some help. Thanks!
Have you tried wine it has a bronze rating so it is a bit of a crapshoot.
every time i try to launch it im told i need directx, i assumed you had to deal with that seperatly
go into you wine settings and set it to dx9
where exactly in the settings is that?
Use PlayOnLinux. Its a wrapper for wine it will automate the procedure a little bit. It will save you time. But if the Game does not have a high rating on Wine do not expect much.
from what i've seen from tinkering with it, it only lets you install games, not play ones you already have.
Yeah. You need to be able to install them on a Linux partition and have the PlayOnLinux set up wine correctly. And if you are running the game from a NTFS partition it will not work I am afraid.
not work at all? if so thats a drag
this is what it gives me, which is what the game does when you don't have it, so im assuming that as long as i can get directx on the linux partition and working there shouldn't be an issue
It not run correctly from an NTFS partition.
I would suggest one last thing...I see its a steam install. Try and install Steam via PlayOnLinux and try to play the game from Steam through PlayOnLinux. If this does not work I do not expect that sth else will.
decided to just wipe the NTFS harddrive, and will probably try to dualboot with windows 10 to play it. Thanks for responding and trying to help!
+1 I love PlayOnLinux
It's a bit late, but have you tried following the guide on this page? Could be good for future reference: http://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/1nhbyp/final_fantasy_xiv_a_realm_reborn_on_linux/
