I just ordered i7 6700k cpu, asus z170 pro gaming motherboard and 16 GB of ram, would it be smarter to wait and buy kabylake ? I'm unsure about the pricing of kabylake as I already stretched my budged to order those parts. I wanna upgrade from a A10-5800k (4 years old) and I know Ryzen is right around the corner and I know it looks great on paper but I wasn't happy with the AMD cpu so far. Do you guys reckon returning the i7 and getting a kabylake would be a wiser purchase ( long term? ).
Kaby lake will almost certainly be more expensive equivalent parts to your 6700k. So on that front there is no money to be saved. Likely in the initial rush they might even inflate kabylake prices so yeah.
The more likely things is kabylake driving down the last gen stuff but i7s once settled price wise from the last gen hold their price well enough for a few months when new ones come.
Zen is the only outlier. If it shows up good and is cheaper too than equivelant Intel prices might change across the board. But that's an if.
Send it back for a full refund.
Probably not that much more expensive. If you are going to pay full price, it makes sense to pay it as soon as possible to extract the relative benefit of the the new part. Or, if the old part is ok, to get it for a discount once the new parts are available.
As for RyZen, I'm cautiously optimistic. But until I start seeing production stuff being widely reviewed, it's just vapor.
tl;dr: now is the WORST time to buy anything current. Wait for the new hotness.
Check youtube. Kaby Lake just exploded all over my sub feed.
@wendell you sick mofo! Seven videos? Holy crap! xD Nice! Guess I know what I do for the next few hours.
I would wait on Zen. Intel has not been impressing me lately.
also prices in europe are usually even higher than in the US :X
Found some info that the 7700k will cost 305$ ? That price is almost unbelievable in europe as 6700k is nearly 400$ right now =p
I did before posting and that's what got me thinking.
Consider taxes.
