Design for efficient cooling

The standard front/bottom intake and top/rear output for airflow seems to be prett ineffective with current implementations. I wanted to know if anyone on here had a better design in mind for effective hardware cooling. The only thing that I can really think to do to improve cooling would be to have air coming from the bottom to the top (heat rises) throughout the entire case to make a nice updraft. That would require a relocation of the psu. Don't really know where to put the psu in that case without making the bigger on the backside of the mobo. Any thoughts?

I think front to back combined with down to up is pretty efficiënt... As long as a case is big enough there is no issue concerning the psu... I pretty much don't see the issue here :D could you clarify?

I have a nice plastic tube inside the bottom portion of the case for the CPU and memory cooling, it isolates them and keeps it 5-10 degrees cooler than without it. It's especially useful when using a normal fan vidoe card cooler too, since that spreads heat throughout the case, unlike blower-style fans.

This is, I believe, part of the design from an initiative from intel a few years ago, balanced technology extended.

I do think the idea of it is pretty good... that's why psu's are on the bottom so things get separated... if every componont could have this then that would be more efficiënt.

I think that to get the most out of air cooling a case, you would need to have the fans right next to the hardware. That way, air is gettting blown onto it instead of just making a high pressure zone. If you were to get fans blowing up from where the psu is, would you have air blowing right on the video card area. If you had fans blowing in where the hdd cases usually are, you would have air blowing right onto the entirety of the board. Then with fans all along the top, there would be a great updraft to make sure no heat sits anywhere in the case. The psu and hdd cases are just in the way of that idea.

Isn't that the case with most high end custom computers? At least it should be...

A wind tunnel. Nice idea.

Last year silverstone pushed positive pressure systems really hard through their lineup of cases. They also designed a really unique case called the Raven 2 with a cooling system I haven't seen repeated. It has 3 custom designed 180mm fans on the bottom and one 120mm fan on top.

I like that :D

Nice.
