Hello
I put this topic here, because I felt that this was the most appropariate category for this.
I bought myself an old server package which included an old HP SAN-diskshelf, and a LSI 9200-8e -HBA to run it.
Since the diskshelf was missing its front covers, I did not realize it was HP until I got back home . I thought I had bought an IBM version, but apparently I was wrong.
I traced the model to be an MSA60 SAN-diskshelf from HP manufactured around 2005-2006. Currently the shelf has only one SAS-controller (HP PN:399049-001) , with a spot for a second unit with a filler.
The shelf physically has 12 disk bays, but based on the wikipedia article, the included SAS IO module (on the disk shelf side) is capable of handling only 4 devices? The connector is a SFF-8088 -connector on the HP SAS-IO side. So based on my common sense, even if I had 2 SAS-IO-modules equipped I would not be able to address all 12 drive bays? Or is there some gimmick I am not aware?
Also, I guess I would need to buy a second HBA or something to be able to handle all 12 drivebays, if I had them populated?
ATM I actually have 12 drive trays for the Diskshelf, but IDK if I will ever become such a datahoarder that I might need more than 4-6 4TB drives…
Thanks for taking the time! If you have some knowledge about the SAS-IO-controllers that I don’t have to be able to use all 12 drive bays instead of only 8, I really would appriciate if you would share it!
