I use a 2013 Dell 7520 laptop, it works well under Linux except, the fan control is a pain to configure or is even impossible out of Debian based distros.
It normally uses i8kutils (a project that is up for adoption) which uses a kernel module that got deprecated in the last few years.
Without this, the fans spin on 100% all the time, even when the laptop is cool.
The only way to easily use this package is under Debian based distros, and there is no way to know how much longer this will be the case for future versions.
It would be nice if there was a more user-friendly way of controlling the fans via a GUI tool or even an updated CLI tool just so we can still use DELL laptops without compromises in Linux.
It’s been a while since i’ve used windows in that laptop but the problem seems to happen there too.
I hope this project helps us to keep older and newer hardware going strong after the manufacturers are done with it.
