Have you tried it lately? The frame rates have improved drastically. 
The FPS aspect needs some more work yes, but is is there. It is also fun. I will freely admit that a lot of stuff that is coming to SC is “soon TM” … but it’s a lot of fun currently. You do need friends to play with, though. Hit me up anytime (preferably a reasonable US West Coast time), and I’ll be your space taxi/Lyft/Uber. pew pew See you in the verse !!!
