Newtard question: Why is Darwin OS not available for download when Wikipedia states that it is still in existence?

You can download it. Sort of... There were projects a while back called OpenDarwin and later PureDarwin that aimed to create a functional distribution out of the Darwin operating system components. They have a few virtual machine images still available for download, but the projects have been stagnant for several years now. The actual components of Darwin can be downloaded in source form from opensource.apple.com but they would have to be modified to run on non-apple hardware and maybe fix some dependencies on closed portions of OS X. In other words, Darwin is still around as the core of OS X, but it's very much tailored specifically for Apple's uses so nobody else does much of anything with it.
Thanks.
