I think I need a replacement for my Komplete Audio unit…So I need recommendations for reasonably priced DACs that more or less have the features of KA - at least 1 XLR input, at least 2 balanced 1/4in outputs (1 left, 1 right), a 1/4in headphone output, and preferably a volume knob to control the speakers (often I mute the speakers but still monitor through my headphones)
Also, I think I learned I would rather it be externally powered. The reason I think my KA6 is dead is because of a strange bug where light crackles would happen…and if I didn’t unplug and reset the unit, the crackles would get worse and eventually audio would become laggy and delayed. When I am video editing, this behavior would happen frequently, meaning in an hour I may unplug and plug the unit back in 6 or 7 times, which I think damaged the USB input on the unit.
I have tried different cables, but still no juice. I took the unit apart to inspect whats going on inside and I believe the USB plug’s solder joints broke. I don’t have a solder, nor do I know how to solder well, but I ripped a board out of an old printer that has the same USB input type as KA6, and if I can find someone who has a solder I can borrow I’m sure as hell gonna give it a shot…buuuut, I’m not holding my breath. So, figured I would start shopping around now…
For those of you who don’t know the specs on KA6 - since I am looking for a DAC with similar features, here’s a link to it’s page:
(obviously I don’t care about the software)
