Hi! im looking to do a project on making my on pc/console (sorta like steamos) but i looked at a lot of tutorials and ive seen nothing on creating a graphical interface.. Can somebody please help me as all i want to do is create a graphical interface and add on a bit of software. please explain how to do this in depth. Thank you :)
I would start by throwing arch into a VM and install the open box desktop for starters.
Open box is kind of a sand box where you can build your desktop the way you want it. It certainly does not let you build an interface from scratch, but it would be a great way to get a working prototype.
From your prototype, I would suggest that you find a known desktop interface that closely matches what you made in open box. From there, you can just download the source code and then either strip it down or build it up depending on what you want or need.

QT and/or GTK are only good sources if you have a really solid foundation, and you just want to add some alterations or finishing touches.
If you want a completely custom distro, then first things first. You need to find someone who has implemented the linux kernel in such a way that it suits your needs. This is your base foundation.
Then you could go one of two ways. You could either completely custom design a new UI from the ground up with something like QT or GTK, or you could find a desktop environment that you like and simply tweak it with the use of QT or GTK.
