Corrupted Windows

My Windows installation is corrupted. Microsoft's guide is far too confusing so I decided to ask here.

you could try the trusty old "chkdsk /R" command and see what happens, that has helped me a few times. let us know

thanks!

edit, fyi, the chkdsk command checks the disk for errors, the /r option attempts to repair damaged files it finds.

No, that didn't work, that command returned no errors.

check whats written log file it dropped for you.
windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log

also it might be better to run this command from safe mode; some system modules might be not writable as they are being used by windows at this moment. (sfc /scannow)

I can't open that log (Access is Denied)

How can I boot from safe mode, aside from unplugging my computer?

generally you can press F8 alot on startup, or go into msconfig and select safe boot.

Find a windows installation disk and try a repair.

I don't have a Windows installation disk.

If you don't have an install disk you can make your own if you have an extra USB laying around.

Here are MS's directions for creating said recovery drive.

Quick edit but it's been bugging me. You've backed up your data, right?

uhm no need the rescue boot disk is actually on hidden partition when windows is being installed.
So all he has to do is press f8 when booting ~ there should be one of the options there like repair/recovery mode or something like that. There should be ability to make windows boot into it from your windows installation too... can't remember how maybe ppl here can guide you.

Yes, I have a backup.
