Constant flickering on OLED after upgrade

KVM Model:

1.4 Display Port KVM Switch - Dual Monitor - Two Computer

USB Interface (5-gigabit or 10-gigbit):

10 gb

Problem:

My Alienware AW3423DWF is flickering like crazy even with this brand new, upgraded setup.

Other Notes:

Really confused. I had a mostly stable AVAccess B10 setup that I returned/upgraded to this level1techs setup because the B10 was flickering occasionally with older, cheaper cables, one flicker every minute or two.

I upgraded to this Level1tech KVM, replaced both cables with 1.6m Club 3D DisplayPort 2.1 VESA DP80 certified 8k240hz cables, and connected it to my gaming PC (to the displayport out of my GTX 2070Super).

After about 2 hours of working mostly fine (my side monitor doesn’t play nicely with my work computer until I change the resolution, but that’s clearly a computer specific problem) it started flickering like crazy. I’m getting lines white lines across the display that look like screen tearing, and they’re practically every 1-2 seconds right now. The cables and the KVM are all brand new today.

Not a clue where to begin; I just threw $700 at the problem to try and eliminate this flicker, and instead it’s infinitely worse than on my prior setup.

its probably the cables, but try a 3 foot cable instead of two 6 foot cables.

Double check the alienware dp settings have eco mode/power save/fast handshake and those types of options turned off as well.

It doesn’t seem to have any settings like that. I was using one of these two cables to direct connect the monitor the past couple of days with no trouble, for whatever that’s worth.

What cables should I be using? My research suggested that these were quite good.

The flicker has also now gone away, at least temporarily, and I didn’t do anything to cause that. It’s almost like the hardware warmed up, which seems odd.

could be external interference if you’ve moved the cables around.

DDC/CI in the osd, you might try toggling that off. DP1/DP2 can also be different. Alienware also has firmware updates for this display which could help.

Club3d is generally by far the best cable but the length of the cables in and out of the KVM matter here. So the 3 foot cable instead of the 6 foot you have buys you some more SNR margin and you’re pretty close.

A ferrite cable clamp if its external interference could also help (just need one, probably kvm side on the cable going to the monitor, or monitor side where the cable goes into the monitor. A multi-pack of different size ferrite cable clamps is like $10 or less and especially if just moving things a bit fixed it, its probably interference and ferrite will help.

if you have power or usb cables zip tied or velcro’d with display cables that might be related
