About to upgrade my chassis from an Sharkoon REX3 up to an Corsair Carbide 500R, so the issue of mine while building a PC is connecting all the pins to the right places, lining up the pluses and such. The Motherboard I got is the 'MSI Z97 Gaming 5', I also have no clue about all the fan controllers people are talking about. I watched a tech quicky about that and it did not really help me by much, any tips?
Have you checked the user manual that came with your motherboard?
These usually have guides for connecting the pins correctly.
