Connecting laptop to desktop rig?

I want to connect my laptop to my setup with 1 cable, is this possible? And what do I need?
If not, a better method than current situation is welcome.
(I still want to be able to game properly on my desktop, 1080p 144Hz.)

Problem
I have to disconnect and connect too many cables when I use my laptop.
Also I can only use one screen (+laptop screen), as laptop only got one HDMI port.

How I connect my laptop now

  • Plug in power cable.
  • Plug in HDMI cable from screen 2.
  • Unplug USB devices from desktop.
  • Plug in USB devices.

Best case desired situation

  • Plug in one cable into laptop.

I mean, a lot of that would be solved by just…a Thunderbolt dock. It’s what my friend did for a long time before he got a desktop, just have one that actually passes power in to the laptop and have it live there on your desk.

Now depending on your laptop’s specs you may need to also use HDMI to drive the second screen, most docks usually come with one because I’m pretty sure there’s not enough bandwidth for multiple? That’s still a big advantage.

And if they’re both running Windows you can just use Mouse Without Borders to share peripherals.
