This is the second time I've heard Logan use the term 'thermal mass' and I strongly suspect he doesn't know what it means.
Thermal mass is not something you can get a feel for by lifting an object up (like with regular mass). I suppose you could argue that touching something lets you feel how much warmer it gets from the heat transferred from your hand and so guesstimate the thermal mass, but the human sense of touch is hopelessly inadequate for that.

So thermal conductivity would be a better phrase? or Thermal transferability?
