Computer shuts off

Here is my issue:
After attempting to slightly overclock my RX580 card with Corectrl as i applied the settings, the computer shut off , as if i pulled the power cord. I have the bios set to automatically restart, so it comes right back up, then power off as soon as i log in (Coretrl is running as my user).
After a bit of fiddling (basically removing corectrl and all its settings from the command line), it will boot up and stay on - for a time. Then repeat as before.
I’ve done the following:
removed all overclocking in the bios, set to defaults. no change
reinstalled corectrl, and underclocked the RX580 , no change
putting a load on both the cpu (stress -n 32, handbrake ) and video card (batch upscayl job) doesnt crash the computer as you might expect with an over/underclock. Cpu hits 5GZH on some cores with the stress tests and PBO turned on, and a solid 4.6GHZ on all cores with handbrake running.

i suspect the RX580 card is bad, as about every ±2 days it shuts off then reboots.
i dont have another decent video card to try (its nvidia gt520 … that i use in a server for a display for troubleshooting) …
It was functioning normally before the overclock attempt.
